Teams often begin automation projects by asking what can be automated. A better question is what should remain deliberately human.
Repetitive collection, normalization, reminders, routing, and first-pass classification are usually good candidates. High-impact exceptions, ambiguous approvals, sensitive communication, and irreversible actions usually need a gate.
The strongest workflow is not the one with the fewest humans. It is the one where people spend their time on judgment instead of clerical repetition.
Design the boundary first. Then automate everything safely inside it.
